Who is Scott Phillips?

Portland, Oregon Attorney Scott Phillips
A Lawyer and a Blogger
I’m a solo attorney and a professional problem solver. My practice focuses on representing small and closely held business in Portland, Oregon with everything from entity formation to litigation. I hope to dispel the myth that lawyers are a necessary evil and only serve to file lawsuits (although lawsuits are certainly necessary in some circumstances). On the contrary, the most valuable part of providing legal services is preventing problems before they arise and minimizing damage once they do.
In keeping with the spirit of the paragraph above, this site is designed to be a sort of central repository of common sense applications to small business law. And it’s also an outlet for me to point out developments in the law and policy that might be of interest to my readers.
A Portlander by Way of Alaska and Arizona
Although I grew up in Anchorage, AK, I now call Portland, Oregon home. In fact, I’m in Portland for the long haul. After finishing law school at Willamette University in Salem in 2007, I moved to Portland to open my own practice and haven’t given a thought to leaving since. When I’m not working, I spend my time golfing, biking, camping, skiing, and otherwise enjoying the beautiful Northwest. If there is work to be done on a nice summer day, you can often find me with my laptop out on the patio.
Before law school, I attended Arizona State University in Tempe where I received my bachelor’s degree in Socio-Economic Justice Studies. Even though I’m an Oregonian now, I am always and forever a Sun Devils football fan.
Somehow, Portland is a nice compromise between the cold winters up north and the scorching summers in the desert.
